Large red damselfly closeup, Heesch, the Netherlands A field tip for photographing dragonflies/damselflies: you can go look for them during early morning. They will be hard to find, but at least they will sit still. If you're not a morning person, like me, go at the hottest time of the day, and they will be very easy to spot, yet they are quite active. The trick to still capture them during activity is to spend a long time in their immediate presence. They will get used to you and often return to the same leaf or twig.
