  1. Looks like some sources consider this a subspecies whilst others consider it a full species. Either way we need to combine it into a single species record to avoid the duplicate so for now re-identified to the existing sub species record, hope you understand. Posted 2 days ago
    1. To me this is Giraffa reticulata, and I thought that I named it like that when I uploaded the image.As we all know ,in the field of Taxonomy there are splitters and lumpers. Who is right ,I don’t know. Posted 2 days ago, modified 2 days ago
      1. To be clear, you did nothing wrong. It can be seen as a species or subspecies. But we can't do both since that creates two records, which is confusing. Posted yesterday

The reticulated giraffe, also known as the Somali giraffe, is a subspecies of giraffe native to Somalia, southern Ethiopia, and northern Kenya. Reticulated giraffes can interbreed with other giraffe subspecies in captivity or if they come into contact with populations of other subspecies in the wild.
