The rufous-headed woodpecker is a species of bird in the family Picidae. It formerly included Kaempfer's woodpecker as a subspecies. It is found in the western Amazon basin in northern Bolivia, far southwestern Brazil, eastern Ecuador, and eastern Peru. Its natural habitats are tropical humid forests and woodland. It is often associated with bamboo.
