  2. great capture of a stunning creature and at least they sit still when mating, interestingly the female actually sedates the male to protect herself from being damaged during the act ...we were fortunate enough to have seen them in action at the kuranda butterfly house and even had a female land on my arm and lay some eggs which the staff collected for incubating before we left!       Yes I think they are quite beautiful and this image was taken at the Kuranda Butterfly House which is a most interesting and informative place to visit.

The Cairns Birdwing is a species of birdwing butterfly endemic to northeastern Australia, and is Australia's largest endemic butterfly species. Other common names include Cooktown Birdwing and Northern Birdwing. The name Cairns in its common name is a reference to the Queensland, Australia city in the region where this butterfly is found.
