  1. We call this a Christmas beetle as it usually shows up in December. This one was attracted to my UV light on on a warm night and got its dates mixed up. Posted 1 hrs ago

Anoplognathus velutinus is a large scarabid beetle found in south eastern Australia.
It is distinctive due to it's covering of white setae.
This group are known as 'Christmas beetles' locally as they appear around late December each year.
