Dark Rover Ant (Brachymyrmex patagonicus) This is a very small ant at 1mm big, The head alone was less than 1/2 a mm big. This ant is commonly called a sugar ant or a pantry ant because they generally like sugar. I had to use a 4x microscopic lens and stack 14 images to get this picture. 1. This is highly impressive photography skills. Especially given the subject's size. Curious as to the common name, I just read they are likened to the plagues of biblical Egypt, given their huge numbers and nuisance. Posted 3 days ago
    1. Thank you Ruth. I think the likeness to the Egyptian plagues is a little overstated. From my experience I have never been bitten and they do not have a Stinger so the most they can be is a nuisance. I see them almost every day in my studio office, One of these days I'm going to have to track down the nest because they're crawling all over my desk.
The lack of sharpness really has to do with light diffraction. I'm looking at getting a better extreme macro lens set up so I can shoot at 10x
