Pearl bush Pieris is a genus of shrubs in the flowering plant family Ericaceae, native to mountain regions of eastern and southern Asia, eastern North America and Cuba.<br />

Known commonly as andromeda, pearl bush and lily-of-the-valley shrub (not related). <br />
<br />
Often grown as ornamental plants, valued for year-round interest due to bright red new growth in early spring, chains of small, white flowers in mid-spring and buds that remain on the plant through the winter. <br />

Bell-shaped flowers have a lovely, honey scent and are up to 15 mm in length. <br />
<br />
These plants grow best in a shady spot, sheltered from drying, winter winds. <br />

"Pieris japonica", the Japanese andromeda or Japanese pieris, is a species of flowering plant in the heath family Ericaceae. It is native to eastern China, Taiwan, and Japan, where it grows in mountain thickets. This medium-sized evergreen shrub or tree is widely cultivated in gardens.
