Aspidimorpha sanctaecrucis
Beetle with bling
The Golden Tortoise Beetle wears a shiny gold coat but flips to red when spooked. Known for its golden sheen and color-changing ability, its metallic look comes from structural layers under a transparent shell that reflect light. When calm, it appears golden; when stressed or disturbed, it shifts to reddish or brown. This change helps in camouflage, defence and communication.

Aspidimorpha sanctaecrucis, sometimes called the golden tortoise beetle (a common name which refers to other species elsewhere), is an Old World species of beetle belonging to the family Chrysomelidae.
