Rocky Mountain Goat or Oreamnos americanus Through years or exposure to humans this wild herd had no fear of people and you could get to within 3-4 feet of them. Walking down from the trail we met a park ranger who was on the way up to move the goats further away from the crowd to avoid someone from getting hurt. Some people just don't realize how unpredictable and aggressive these animal can be. Geotagged,Mountain goat,Oreamnos americanus,Summer,United States Click/tap to enlarge

The mountain goat, also known as the Rocky Mountain goat, is a large-hoofed mammal found only in North America. Despite its vernacular name, it is not a member of "Capra", the genus that includes the wild goat, "Capra aegagrus", from which the domestic goat is derived. A subalpine to alpine species, it is a sure-footed climber commonly seen on cliffs and ice.
