Xylotrechus stebbingi, a species of Oriental origin widespread in the Western Palaearctic during the last 30 years, was described from Himalaya by Charles Joseph Gahan in 1906. According to Francesco Vitali this introduced species was for a long time erroneously identified and corresponded to a taxon Xylotrechus smei (Laporte de Castelnau & Gory, 1841). Gianfranco Sama refuted this theory in his 2006 paper.
