It is a coral of the family Antipathidae. The wire coral is an anthipatharia formed by an unbranched branch, twisting into a corkscrew like a barbed wire. It can reach a spectacular size up to 4.5m in length. The tentacles of the polyps are very long giving the appearance of a bottle brush. The colors are variable going from yellow to brown, passing through green or red.
