Cat Ba Langur
During 2 trips to try to see these shy and elusive Langurs we were fortunate enough to see a total of 16 individuals, which represented 20% of the world population. Very chastening! Our guide estimates that there are now 80 individuals rather than the figure of 70 which has been the accepted number for some 20 years or so.
The Cat Ba langur , also known as the golden-headed langur, is a critically endangered species of langur endemic to Cát Bà Island, Vietnam. It is among the rarest primates in the world, and possibly the rarest primate in Asia, with population size estimated at less than 70 individuals.
