  1. Interesting! I've never seen a lady beetle lay eggs on a tree. There must be good food nearby. Too bad she has the insect equivalent of an STD, though. You see the yellow projections on the right side of her elytra? That's a fungus, often transmitted during copulation. Posted 4 months ago, modified 4 months ago
    1. Now that you mention it, I remember a photo and post by you that shows the "STD"?
From this location of the tree to the leafs is quite close, maybe that explains it.

      1. Yes, here:
Hesperomyces harmoniae on Harmonia axyridis This ladybug has a parasitic fungus, Hesperomyces harmoniae, growing on its elytra. The fungus spreads during mating and through encounters with infected ladybugs; it can easily spread among ladybugs overwintering in groups. Despite the probable discomfort and sometimes impairments to movement, most infected ladybugs lead full and happy lives.<br />

"Harmonia axyridis", most commonly known as the harlequin, multicoloured Asian, or Asian ladybeetle, is a large coccinellid beetle. This is one of the most variable species in the world, with an exceptionally wide range of colour forms.
