    1. Thanks Ferdy, there are some wonderful primates here, the Red-shanked Douc is mind-blowing, supposedly vying with the Golden Snub-nosed Monkey for the title of "most colourful", whatever that means. Unfortunately most of the Langurs, Doucs and Gibbons here are in dire straits, although the government has bee acting strongly recently. However most are in isolated island populations (literally in the case of the Cat Ba Langur which we're trying to see on our last full day here, today - it has a world population of 70). 1. Thank you Alexander, they are renowned for that and it is part of their part of their primary communication method. We are hoping for a couple of other magnificent primates. Posted 4 months ago

    1. Yes, incredible Yael, I believe those in Vietnam are slightly more colourful than those in Laos which have less of the red trousers, more socks than trousers. The Vietnamese name for them is Vooc Ngu Sac, which means 5-coloured Macaque. Thank you, we were fortunate to find them near a road. Posted 4 months ago

The red-shanked douc is an arboreal and diurnal Old World monkey belonging to the Colobinae subfamily. They are endemic to Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. They are known for their bright colors and exhibit sexual dimorphism through their body size.
