    But, here's something weird...I can see on iNat where there are others that look like your moth IDed as Balbura sp.: https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/247526-Balbura/browse_photos.

    But, what about Ardonea tenebrosa?

    The moths IDed as Balbura sp. (and look like your moth) aren't research grade, so maybe they are misidentified. Or else, there are nearly identical species in different genera, perhaps based on location? Taxon change? What do you think?

    1. I think indeed that this is a case of a credible misidentification. Because the misidentification is so believable, the mistake keeps getting copied and so it spreads.

"Ardonea tenebrosa" is a moth of the subfamily Arctiinae. It was described by Francis Walker in 1864. It is found in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
