  1. Very cool! For the ID, my thought is Family Nymphalidae > Subfamily Biblidinae. I'm not sure after that, but Tribe Catonephelini seems promising, especially Catonephele acontius or similar. It looks squished up like an accordion, which could mean that it had been parasitized or else maybe it was preparing to pupate.

"Catonephele acontius", the Acontius firewing, is a nymphalid butterfly species found in South America. It was first described by Carl Linnaeus in 1771.
