  1. Hallo, Tisha, welcome to our community! Where this beauty has been captured? Posted 11 years ago

  2. The photo is very good and I do believe this is a rare Mission Blue Butterfly. It should have been captured somewhere in San Francisco area.

The status of this butterfly is T1 - Critically Imperiled
But I don't want to identify it, cause it is not geotagged.

    1. This butterfly has tails, Jivko. If it is an American species, it is more likely the Eastern Tailed Blue

      1. Looked at a lot of pics and have to go with Wildflower on this one. Posted 11 years ago, modified 11 years ago
  3. It is quite difficult to distinguish them - both have tails and same wing patterns and veining. Unfortunately the photos on buttrerfliesandmoths.org are too small. As the two species have different distribution areas which hardly overlap, it depend on where Trisha has taken the photo. Posted 11 years ago
  4. I believe it is the eastern tailed I have another photo of the under side of wings looks just like that

The eastern tailed-blue or eastern tailed blue, also known as "Everes comyntas", is a common butterfly of eastern North America. It is a medium-sized butterfly that is distinguished from other blues in its range by the small thin tail.
