Satellite Lady Beetle or Coccinella difficilis Larval and adult Ladybugs act both as predators, prey and parasitic hosts in food webs. The majority of coccinellids are carnivorous and predatory, typically preying on insects like aphids, scale insects, whiteflies, psyllids and adelgids. Some species feed on the larvae of moths and other beetles, as well as mites. Since much of their prey are agricultural pests, coccinellids are considered to be beneficial insects.<br />

  1. Interesting species! It looks like it might be common but seems quite obscure, rarely recorded. Posted 8 months ago
    1. That is what I thought too. Ladybird/Ladybug beetles or Coccinella difficilis appear to be common around the western United States. Compared to some other Ladybugs I have seen it apears to be larger and more robust. Posted 8 months ago
