The Devils Coach Horse Beetle (Ocypus olens) One can only imagine what it would be like coming across one of these large and aggressive predators in the undergrowth, where few if any species are its master in the UK?

And what might happen when two of these beetles decide to confront each other? I came across just such a scenario one day this past September, filming this species for a second time.
1. Not something you see every day! Are they fighting over territory? Mating rights? Posted 8 months ago
  2. Have you seen the size of them?

I wasn't going to stop them to ask!

The Devil's coach-horse beetle is a species of beetle belonging to the large family of the rove beetles. It was originally included in the genus "Staphylinus" in 1764, and some authors and biologists still use this classification.
