Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth

My garden sloth had a big day today. It was time to move from one cecropia to another. After all that work, it was time to take a nap.

  1. It looks so awake and energetic, it's honesty exhausting to watch.

PS: was this in Costa Rica?

    1. Oops. Forgot to geotag! Yes, this was in my yard in Costa Rica. Its big adventure for the day was to climb from one tree to another and then sleep for eight hours. Posted 10 months ago, modified 10 months ago
      1. Thanks for the geotag.

Your description of its day was so action-packed, that I'll need some more time to process it. Maybe tomorrow. Or the day after.

      2. Almost forgot a fact I learned a few years ago. When sloths hang upside down on a branch by their claws, this requires zero muscle tension. Meaning, if they'd die in that position (i.e. hunter), they will not drop. They really take their slowness very serious. Posted 10 months ago
        1. Yeah, it's been hanging like that today in the rain. Another big day today: it went out on a branch for two meters, ate some cecropia seeds and then napped some more. Posted 10 months ago
          1. Hope it takes a few days to properly digest that :) Posted 10 months ago
  2. Great shot Mike!! Posted 10 months ago
