    1. I think it's sexual dimorphism, age, and general individual variability. Happens a lot with many tropical frogs. Sometimes years later it turned out to be a species complex and then split into several species.

      For this reason I typically verify my proposed frog IDs in some FB groups, it's sorely needed.

      One thing I learned is that typically, the back pattern is of least interest. Experts look at the shape of the nose, eyes and the type of feet.

"Serranobatrachus megalops" is a species of frog in the family Strabomantidae. Its common name is San Lorenzo robber frog. It is endemic to the northwestern slopes of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, northern Colombia.
