  1. While very similar to a monarch, this is a queen (Danaus gilippus). You can tell the difference because queens have white dots both within the black borders and on the forewings, while monarchs only have white dots within the black borders. Also, queens lack the bold, black lines (on the forewings) that monarchs have. Posted 9 months ago

The Queen Butterfly is a North and South American butterfly in the family Nymphalidae with a wingspan of 70–88 mm. It is orange or brown with black wing borders and small white forewing spots on its dorsal wing surface, and reddish ventral wing surface fairly similar to the dorsal surface.
