  1. Is Ethiopia safe for travel right now? We were considering a trip but all the news of civil war and unrest worries us. Posted 9 months ago
    1. Hi Barry, we were there a year ago and used a local company for our planning and travels. They were great and we never felt in any peril whilst there. The UK government had changed their guidance in August and we'd continued in communication with our travel company during the time after we'd selected where we'd wanted to go and what we'd wanted to see. Obviously insurance was important and the need to retain the cover, just in case. As such our itinerary was not set in stone until a week or so before we flew out. That meant that most of the Northern part of our planned trip had to be forgotten (Lake Tana & the Simien Mountains plus the "rock churches"). The furthest north we went was Debre Libanos. Indeed our itinerary was "dynamic" as it changed by the day as our guide & driver kept in touch with acquaintances and friends across the country. We were going to the Awash NP but when we got there we were turned away by the military so concentrated on the Aledhegi Plains. I can give you contacts if you wish, if you message me. I can also send you the guidance maps issued by the UK government so that you can see that some areas that we passed through are now designated as "advise against all but essential travel" whereas last year they were "see our travelling advice". I can only safely comment on how it was a year ago but if you contact me, you can compare maps and I can give you details of those who we dealt with in Ethiopia last year. Please contact me for the further information. Posted 9 months ago

The giant lobelia is a plant endemic to Ethiopia. Its habitat is the Afroalpine climate of the Semien Mountains and Bale Mountains National Park.
