  1. My luck is finally starting to turn with gnateaters! I'm not on Mike's level, but I'll get there! Posted 10 months ago
    1. With only 12 species in this genus, each one seen must feel like winning a gold medal! Posted 10 months ago
      1. Yes! For some reason, many of my Peruvian birding friends don't really care about them, but to me they're almost at the antpitta level of cooness. Posted 10 months ago
        1. Tell those friends that Pittasoma, whilst being gnateaters are called Antpittas :)
          Only just learned his.

          1. We don't get those in Peru, that's why! Those are obviously very very high wish list birds for me.
But it's actually the other way around. They used to be considered antpittas. Taxonomy later revealed that they were more closely related to gnateaters, but the common names of those 2 didn't change.
Also, does that mean that you saw one on your latest Colombia trip??

            1. Thanks, the common names lagging behind clear up my confusion :)

              Sorry, no gnateater seen :(
