    1. Thanks for the comment. They are not abundant where I live, but I do see one or two of them every year.
      According to stats on iNat, they are of the lesser observed butterflies, scroll down to the last of the Taxonomy list and notice that the ssp I have here only has 10 observations across iNat. So with that data, I would say that they are not easy to find but it is possible to observe one at the peak times of the year and a good location.

  2. Have you tried to study the life cycle of this butterfly? Are there any host plant near by? Posted 7 months ago
    1. I have not tried to study this one. There is host plants in my yard, but the host plant Mistletoe (Phoradendron leucarpum) grows high among the branches of the Oak trees, so not much chance of me getting up there to take a look.

The Eastern Great Purple Hairstreak (Eastern Great Blue Hairstreak) is a subspecies of Atlides halesus recorded in some of the Southeastern United States and Texas. Officially, there are 3 subspecies recognized of the Great Purple Hairstreak - Atlides halesus.
