Steamboat geyser
We had the incredible luck of arriving right at the time Steamboat geyser was erupting. It's been in a more active phase, but is irregular and the last time it erupted was back in July. When it goes quiet it can remain dormant for up to 50 years! This is the world's tallest geyser - erupting up to 300 feet during a major eruption and this one was definitely major. We were there just after the initial water burst, but there was an intensely powerful steam phase happening. It was like standing next to a dozen steam trains.. the noise and power were incredible.
I took a ton of other photos during our trip - far more geysers than I probably should post here so, please feel free to enjoy them all here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/splinkie/

I visited Yellowstone NP about 25 years ago, and still it is one of the most amazing places I've ever seen, one of the places I wish to return to... Posted 10 months ago
