Chestnut-naped Spurfowl - Northern ssp The Northern ssp of this fine spurfowl, previously called francolin. The other ssp is P c atrifrons, the Black-fronted Chestnut-naped Spurfowl. We saw quite a few just of these birds just as we descended from the Sanetti Plateau down towards the Harenna Forest and again when emerging onto the Sanetti Plateau on the 2 days when we were travelling in this area. There were males, females and adults with chicks. The chestnut-naped spurfowl is a species of bird in the pheasant family Phasianidae. At 33–37 cm in length and weighing 550–1,200 g , it is a large species of spurfowl.
It is found in Ethiopia and Somaliland. The population is believed to be stable but according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature there is insufficient data to make an estimate of the population.
