
Euphydryas intermedia wolfensbergeri
This species can be found in Russia and the Alps (there, especially the subspecies E. intermedia wolfensbergeri like this specimen). It is locally abundant, but limited to only a select few spots. Probably that's also the reason why it took us years to find it…

"Euphydryas intermedia " synonym "ichnea" is a small butterfly found in the Palearctic that belongs to the browns family. It occurs up to 2200 m above sea level.
