    Undoubtedly one of the most stunning members of the genus. I remember when I was a kid who was getting into orchids I saw a picture in one of my books, whose caption said something along the lines of "Epidendrum ciliare can be found on trees that line the streets of Cayenne". That sounded like the most amazing place in the world, and I told myself I'd go see them someday. I'm so glad I finally did! Posted one year ago

            For Bolivia, look up its two endemic macaws and the crazy hummers: Red-tailed Comet and Black-hooded Sunbeam.
            For Uzbekistan, it would be my first foray into Central Asia, which is a glaring hole in my world map. A bunch of cool herps and in terms of feathered critters, the top bird would be another species I've been dreaming about for a while: the Turkestan Ground-Jay!             Posted one year ago

The Fringed star orchid

"Epidendrum ciliare", synonyms including "Coilostylis ciliaris" is a species of orchid. It is known as the fringed star orchid. It has a wide distribution from Mexico through Central America and the Caribbean to northern and western South America.
