Birch Lake Eagle I am especially interested in photographing bald eagles and ospreys. We have a fairly large population of both where I live, in northwestern Wisconsin. I get my best shots when out on one of the lakes. I don't fish, but my boyfriend does. One day, at a spot known to usually provide considerable fish action, several boats were arranged in a large and roughly circular fashion, while the guys and gals waited for a bite. Suddenly, an eagle seemed to just fall out of nowhere. He hit the water, scooped up a fish, and took off for parts unknown. Given how sound carries on the water, I could hear a collective grown go up from people who probably wished they could do the same thing! Bald Eagle,Haliaeetus leucocephalus Click/tap to enlarge

  1. Hello to everyone! I'm new to photo contests, so hope I do everything right. I love taking pictures of wildlife -- especially eagles and ospreys. The best shots I get come from being on the water of a northwestern Wisconsin lake. Thanks for the opportunity. Posted 11 years ago
    1. Welcome to JungleDragon, Shaireo! Thanks for sharing a first photo. You did a good job, but there's still a few tips for improving how you share a photo on this site:

      - You can edit the title and description of your photo, to given it a more meaningful title. Use the "edit details" button below the photo. Here's some help:

      - It is important on this site to try to identify the species on the photo. You can do this using the "identify species" option next to the photo. In this case, somebody else has already done it for you. Here's some more help:

At JungleDragon, we consider sharing with care important. It takes a little time getting used to, but photos will become much richer in context, and much more enjoyable to other members this way. Good luck, and do let us know if you have any further questions.

The bald eagle is a bird of prey found in North America. A sea eagle, it has two known subspecies and forms a species pair with the white-tailed eagle, which occupies the same niche as the bald eagle in the Palearctic. Its range includes most of Canada and Alaska, all of the contiguous United States, and northern Mexico.
