We noticed these growing in the grassy middle of a two track trail. They are inconspicuous and I've probably trampled them numerous times. It was difficult to find clean samples but as hard as I tried I could only find them growing near the sandy hard packed soil of the wheel tracks. The flowering head is approximately 2cm x 1cm and the individual flowers are quite small, about 2mm x 3mm.
A closer view:

"Prunella vulgaris" is an herbaceous plant in the genus "Prunella". Self-heal is edible: the young leaves and stems can be eaten raw in salads; the whole plant can be boiled and eaten as a potherb; and the aerial parts of the plant can be powdered and brewed in a cold infusion to make a beverage.
