Lily Leaf Beetle Larvae - Lilioceris lilii
These beetle larvae carry their poo on their backs to deter predators, which is quite brilliant. I was trying to carefully take photos of them, but was not careful enough as I got their poop smeared all over my hand. I was so grateful that the surrounding ferns were still covered in morning dew and proceeded to frantically wipe my hand off on them.

Lilioceris lilii, colloquially known as the Lily leaf beetle, Scarlet or Red lily beetle and under some other names, is a leaf beetle that eats the leaves, stem, buds and flower of lilies, fritillaries and other members of the family Liliaceae.
