I figured this was a soldier beetle when I saw it, but it appears it's something more interesting.. consulting BG, but ID beyond genus may not be possible from a photo
unfortunately it appears that there may be quite a few with similar markings and fewer that have unique patterns than don't.. I also got to Nemognatha on BugGuide, but found this: Identification
"separation from Zonitis remains problematic; species are very difficult to identify, our spp. are separated by aedeagus structure" I got the impression that few species were able to be ID'd from markings alone.

A blast from the past - but just today someone on BugGuide ventured to ID this fellow to the species level. I do not know how they reached this conclusion.. I would love it if they would make a notation..

Speaking of a blast from the past, a few days ago I got a "thanks" reply in response to me saying "nice photo!". Unbelievably, the reply came 10 years after my comment!

It is a particular subspecies with a strong visual match. I don't know though if the visual part is exclusive/unique. Posted one year ago
