These roses are hugely invasive in our area. For a time the authorities encouraged us to plant them, as wildlife habitat. They become an impenetrable barrier with wicked thorns, particularly in logged areas (which are common where we walk). I thought they deserved a closer look:

"Rosa multiflora" is a species of rose. It is native to eastern Asia, in China, Japan, and Korea. It should not be confused with "Rosa rugosa", which is also known as "Japanese rose", or with polyantha roses which are garden cultivars derived from hybrids of "R. multiflora".
