  1. This small guan is a cloud forest specialty of southern Ecuador and far northern Peru. Much more easily seen north of the border, we only saw this one individual on a multi-day expedition to the highlands of Cajamarca, where many Andean species reach the southern end of their distribution, as they don't cross the dry Marañon Valley. The bearded guan is a species of bird in the family Cracidae, the chachalacas, guans, and curassows. It is found in Ecuador and Peru. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forest. It is threatened by habitat loss.
