After a hike I found this tick on my sock, just at the border of the permethrin sprayed ankle portion. It looked like he wanted to continue upwards but didn't like what he was finding. When I got close to him with the camera he did cross over onto the sprayed portion, but I thought he looked a little wobbly- but that might just be my hope that the permethrin was working talking :)
I'm going to call it American Dog Tick, Dermacentor variabilis, please correct me if you think not.

''Dermacentor variabilis'', also known as the American dog tick or wood tick, is a species of tick that is known to carry bacteria responsible for several diseases in humans, including Rocky Mountain spotted fever and tularemia . It is one of the most well-known hard ticks.
