  1. You did get the Laowa? How do you like it, sir? Posted one year ago
    1. I did and I like it a lot. It is so much better than what I was getting from a reverse mounted lens. The working distance is very generous. I ran it through it's paces shooting an EPROM chip for reference and F2.8 showed the best resolution across all the magnification settings. I've read reviews that mention chromatic aberration at F2.8 but I'm not seeing much of it at all, much better than the AF-S 105mm 2.8 VR.

I tried it out with 52mm extension which boosted it to 7:1 but the increase in usable data was slight, probably due to the increase in diffraction.

I'm shooting with 25 micron step settings on the WeMacro rail and so far stack size has not been an issue, 75 to 150 or so shots per stack- but I need to take a closer look at step size vs quality- my steps might be smaller than needed.

      1. Interesting, I too am happy with the f/2.8 performance and it's what I use most often. I think up to f/5.6 is still acceptable, at least for my purposes.

For step size, I use this:

I would agree that you can probably increase your current step size.
