Xylocopa violacea, the violet Carpenter Bee This wonderful violet carpenter bee payed the Snapdragons on my lil&lsquo; loggia a visit. I&lsquo;m grateful that some Snapdragons survived the winter and have blossoms already. The plants are quite worn and will be replaced soon but they fulfill their duty as early offer for Bumblebees and Bees. See a small video in the comments. <br />

"Xylocopa violacea", the violet carpenter bee, is the common European species of carpenter bee, and one of the largest bees in Europe. It is also native to Asia. Like most members of the genus "Xylocopa", it makes its nests in dead wood. It is not particularly aggressive, and will attack only if forced to.
