Beka Sigasiga: Samoan Flying-fox
Somewhere on the Island of Viti Levu, Fiji...
The only mammal capable of true flight, a 'Beka Sigasiga' (Known as 'Samoan Flying-fox' in English) hangs from the branch of a pawpaw tree as it surreptitiously approaches the fruit. Clearly visible along the branches are the claw marks of numerous bats who visit this tree regularly. In Fiji, Flying-foxes are considered a delicacy.

The Samoa flying fox or Samoan flying fox is a species of flying fox in the Pteropodidae family. It is found in American Samoa, Fiji, and Samoa . Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry forests. It is threatened by habitat loss.
