  2. I nearly stepped on it, lost in the green of the forest floor but the tiny purple buds caught my eye so I clipped it and photographed it at home. The resulting photo is almost surreal - it looks so vivid, almost artificial- and it is a mystery to me how that happened. Pretty sure nothing abnormal happened in my post processing, but it sure looks that way.

"Packera aurea", commonly known as golden ragwort, is a perennial flower in the family Asteraceae. It is native to eastern North America, from Labrador to Minnesota and from North Carolina to Arkansas.
