  1. I went out this evening to take my trash out, and heard an odd noise. I'm used to hearing cicadas every summer here, but I had never heard one that sounded like this or looked like this. It is beautiful, and I will be releasing it. Posted one year ago

"Magicicada cassini", known as the 17-year cicada, Cassin's periodical cicada or the dwarf periodical cicada, is a species of periodical cicada. It is endemic to North America. It has a 17-year life cycle but is otherwise indistinguishable from the 13-year periodical cicada "Magicicada tredecassini".
