straining_wasp (leucospidae) 8-2-99 SW Michigan USA straining wasp 8-2-99-18- scanned Velvia slide. I noticed this tiny wasp on the door of our woodshed and to my amazement it split it&#039;s body and inserted it&#039;s ovipositor into the wood of the door. Perhaps to get more leverage?<br />

    1. As I understand it, initially she is looking for living insects within the plywood in which to deposit an egg. And back then, that plywood was pretty solid. Posted one year ago
      1. And it looks like she actually has two ovipositors! One for inserting eggs through hard material and the other for soft material? Posted one year ago
