Yellow-bellied toad (Bombina variegata)
From today's hike along the riparian forest habitat on the banks of the Mangfall river, close to Miesbach.
There was this muddy puddle in the path, covered with lots of conifer pollen, and three toads sitting in it. Pretty well camouflaged…
The characteristic yellow belly can't be seen in this picture - but we were able to see it when the toad climbed out of the water.

The yellow-bellied toad belongs to the order Anura, the archaeobatrachial family Bombinatoridae, and the genus of fire-bellied toads.
