Avena clauda
in a field of about 50,000 square meters full of olive trees and Avena sativa, we were told someone found the very rare and endangered Avena clauda... so we searched.
after a l..o..n..g time, I found it!!!! first time I get excited over a grass (of the Poaceae)...
its distinguishing characteristic is the glumes - one is about half the length of the other.

Avena clauda is an annual plant in the Poaceae family. It is smaller than the common Avena sativa. its glumes have different length - one is about 2/3 of the other. Plant is 20-60 cm tall, small spikelets - about 2 cm long.
