Acer rubrum 2024-03-16 SW Michigan USA
Male red maple flower- the red maples were flowering profusely then, but mostly quite high off the ground. Found this on a small tree with flowering branches within my reach, on the edge of the woods. I tried to find a female flower, examining perhaps a dozen similar small trees, without success. Do the females favor large trees, out of my reach? I would think that the timing of male and female flower emergence would be similar.

"Acer rubrum", is one of the most common and widespread deciduous trees of eastern North America. The red maple ranges from the Lake of the Woods on the border between Ontario and Minnesota, east to Newfoundland, south to near Miami, Florida, and southwest to east Texas.
