Mourning Dove or Zenaida macroura
As a young boy I distinctly remember the soothing sounds of this dove outside my bedroom window every morning. Even today, my neighborhood has many of these doves which offer a soothing cooing sound in the morning and in the evening.
An interesting note is that this is one of the few birds to drink without lifting its head, similar to the Rock Pigeon.

The mourning dove is a member of the dove family, Columbidae. The bird is also known as the American mourning dove, the rain dove, colloquially as the turtle dove, and it was once known as the Carolina pigeon and Carolina turtledove. It is one of the most abundant and widespread of all North American birds.
