Rainbow Boa (Epicrates cenchria); Sacha Lodge, Ecuador
On our first night in Sacha Lodge, we were having dinner along with all the other guests. Suddenly the manager, who had noticed my enthusiasm for photographing all kinds of wildlife, walked up to our table and asked me “Do you have your camera at hand? Follow me!” Some of the staff had noticed this impressive snake in the underbrush near one of the huts.
In the picture below that shows the whole size you can also the rainbow-esque shimmer that the flashlight produces on its skin:

"Epicrates cenchria" is a boa species endemic to Central and South America. Common names include the rainbow boa, and slender boa. A terrestrial species, it is known for its attractive iridescent sheen caused by structural coloration.
