I saw one on my very first day, but it was not at all cooperative and I spent half an hour following it as it moved from tree to tree, always perching in dense foliage, and when it finally deigned to land on an open perch I had to clamber up a scree slope just to get a backlit record shot. The second one I saw on a perfect low perch in beautiful evening light... just on the edge of a big park in Santiago as I had gone out for a run, so no photos there!
And finally third time was the charm! I called this one on the edge of La Campana national park (which was unfortunately closed due to the wildfires) and it quickly turned up, accompanied by the usual entourage of pissed off songbirds mobbing it. Light wasn't on my side but at least it allowed for nice close views!
I'll have to go back for my other owl target that got away...
