  1. Everyone was watching the many close up and  colorful birds on the finca when I noticed this tiny woodpecker foraging in a  far off tree. I assume this is a male Olivaceous Piculet as it has red tipped feathers on the top of its head. Never knew woodpeckers could be so diminutive.

  3. Beautiful bird! Love the fern too. Posted one year ago
    1. Thanks, Christine! Do you know the name of the fern? Posted one year ago
      1. I'm not sure, but a guess would be that it is something in the family Polypodiaceae. Maybe Pleopeltis sp., such as Pleopeltis macrocarpa.

        1. That looks like it. You may be too young to remember them, but the fern looks like candy buttons. I appreciate your response and link! Posted one year ago
          1. Haha, yes! The little bits of candy stuck to paper, right? I loved those! But, in retrospect, I have no idea why. ;P Posted one year ago
            1. 3 reasons probably. Sugar, aesthetics and shareability. Just tear off a piece and give it to a friend. :-) Posted one year ago
              1. So true. Plus, the challenge of trying to peel off each piece of candy without eating the paper along with it. Posted one year ago
