  1. Not a lot of tanagers, very few hummingbirds, hardly any antbirds... When it comes to birds Southern South America is the land of furnariids (ovenbirds and woodcreepers) and flycatchers, and it does have some very nice ones.
I really hope to go to Argentina in October, which has some reallllly cool ones. Stay tuned!

  2. Lovely little bird and another first!
I think all the tanagers and hummingbirds are living in Colombia. I see dozens of each every day :-)

    1. Even though it frustrates Ferdy, I try to only upload species intros or at least country intros haha. Too many photos otherwise!
Yes the tropical Andes are really the kingdom of tanagers and hummers. Once it switches to temperate in Chile and Argentina, these guys really get scarce.

The fire-eyed diucon is a passerine bird of South America belonging to the tyrant flycatcher family Tyrannidae. It is the only species placed in the genus "Pyrope". It is found in central and southern Chile, southwestern Argentina, and Tierra del Fuego. Vagrant birds have occurred just eastwards of Tierra del Fuego in the Falkland Islands.
